How do one to one sessions work?
Â
STEP ONE
We begin with an initial appointment online or in person to assess your child’s current literacy skills.
Our Functional Literacy Assessment is a practical screening that helps us understand your child’s learning profile. It identifies gaps, strengths, and areas of difficulty, allowing us to create a clear plan to improve their foundational skills, build confidence, and get their reading and spelling on track.
The Functional Literacy Assessment is essential so that we understand your child's skills, and we use it as a starting marker and reassess 6 - 8 months into remediation to compare, track & monitor progress.
Â
STEP TWO
Then we move into one-to-one weekly remediation sessions online or in person and systematically work through our structured remediation plan, starting at the foundations and systematically building skills as we go, with heaps of embedded cumulative review to make sure the learning sticks.
Then we reassess in 6 - 8 months time to monitor & track the progress (at no extra cost, other than the usual session fee).

More About One-to-One Sessions

One-to-one instruction tailored for children with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. Many of our students already have a diagnosis or are undergoing intervention to provide valuable insights for the diagnostic process. Families are required to complete 6 months of evidence based intervention before seeking a dyslexia diagnosis (to avoid a provisional diagnosis and retesting) |

Specialised literacy therapy, not just tutoring. We’re not your average tutoring centre. Our approach goes far beyond homework help or classroom content. We start with the foundations and systematically teach the skills needed for accurate, confident reading and spelling. There are no quick fixes here. We provide evidence-based structured literacy instruction that targets the root causes of reading and spelling difficulties, strengthening the brain’s phonological pathways for lasting improvement. |

ÂEvidence-based methods that deliver resultsWe teach reading, writing, and spelling using evidence-based structured literacy approaches, including Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) and Orton-Gillingham. These methods are supported by decades of research into how the brain learns to read. Instruction is explicit, systematic, and multisensory, helping children build the strong foundational skills needed for accurate and confident reading and spelling. |

Specialised educators who understand neurodivergence. Our highly trained educators have extensive experience working with neurodivergent children, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. Our team has completed specialised training in structured literacy through IMSLE and ongoing accreditation with the Australian Dyslexia Association. We understand that every child has unique needs and learns best in an environment where they feel safe, connected, and supported. |

Systematic, multisensory, individualised lessons.Every child’s journey is unique, and one-to-one support helps pinpoint their exact needs. Using a systematic, multisensory approach, we teach at their point of need, building skills effectively and helping them see progress quickly. |

want to talk it over?
At All Kids Can, we speak with parents every day who are in the exact same position as you. Their child is struggling, and they’re not sure what to do next. Some parents come to us because they have a gut feeling something isn’t quite right. Others have been encouraged by a teacher or another allied health professional to seek specialised literacy support.
Either way, we’re always happy to talk with you about your child and help guide you in the right direction. Simply click the button below and send us a message.
