How Online Assessments Work

Unless you're in South Brisbane, Queensland, our Functional Literacy Assessments are completed entirely online. This makes it easier for families across Australia to access high-quality, evidence-based literacy support, no matter where you live. 

Online assessments work in exactly the same way as if your child were sitting across the table from us.

What You’ll Need

A laptop works best, as we can slightly tilt the screen to get a clear view of your child’s desk space to see their writing, just like the view we would have if we were sitting opposite them.

If a laptop isn’t available, an iPad or desktop computer works well too.

Set Up for Success

To help the session run smoothly:

• Make sure you have a stable internet connection

• Set your child up in a quiet space with minimal distractions

• Have them seated at a table or desk

• You don’t need to sit in the session, but it’s helpful to be nearby if needed

How to Prepare

For the spelling section, it’s helpful if your child has a small whiteboard and whiteboard markers (these are easy to pick up at the supermarket).

If you don’t have a whiteboard, paper and textas work perfectly well too.

What Happens During the Assessment

The session runs just like it would in person. It is one-on-one and interactive, allowing us to build a clear picture of your child’s current reading, spelling, and writing skills using normed, structured assessments.

Some children feel nervous about testing, and we completely understand that. We spend time chatting with your child and building rapport so they feel comfortable and relaxed in the session.
